Nomophobia in students of the Technical University of the North
Abstract
The development of information and communications technologies has brought with it numerous changes in people's lives, especially young people. Students not only see the need to use them for studies but they are also used as forms of communication and development of friendships, in some cases with a high dependence on them in their daily actions. This process of dependency that a person creates through the use of a cell phone has been called nomophobia. In students, one of the most prominent factors is falling into this addiction, due to many mental factors. The dependence developed on the cell phone on multiple occasions is accompanied by negative emotions and the need to seek company through the screen instead of real relationships. The research was carried out in five faculties of the Universidad Técnica del Norte located in the province of Imbabura, canton Ibarra, with the study of groups of students of different ages with the purpose of establishing the factors that influence university academic nomophobia. Through surveys based on the Guerri and Lemos Test, in addition to virtual measurement instruments such as QuestionPro and Jotforms and SPSS, data processing was established by performing correlation analysis to find the factors that influence nomophobia associated with the levels of emotional dependence in students and the possible influence on their academic and social behavior.
