Evaluation of a Training Program for Coaches in the Post-Retirement Transition of Swimmers in Tegucigalpa

Authors

Abstract

This study assessed the effectiveness of a training program for coaches in the post-retirement transition of swimmers in Tegucigalpa. A quasi-experimental design was used with two groups: an experimental group that received specific training and a control group that did not receive additional training. The sample included 50 randomly selected sports coaches. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated using quantitative methods, including pre- and post-intervention questionnaires and evaluation scales, as well as advanced statistical analyses. Results revealed that the experimental group showed a significant improvement in knowledge about desentrenamiento and in applying strategies for the social reintegration of athletes. Coaches in the experimental group also reported an increased ability to support swimmers in their post-retirement transition compared to the control group. This study demonstrates that a structured training program can significantly enhance the effectiveness of coaches in managing desentrenamiento, which, in turn, benefits retired swimmers. Findings suggest that similar programs could be beneficial in other sports contexts.
