Impact of teaching resources on learning to read and write
Abstract
In the current educational context, literacy skills play a significant role in the academic and personal development of students. However, in many institutions, there is not an adequate use of didactic resources, nor a proper integration that would strengthen and consolidate literacy skills and abilities. This research the impact of didactic resources on the learning of literacy among sixth-grade students in General Basic Education at the Unidad Educativa Fiscomisional 'Sagrado Corazón' during the 2023-2024 period, located in the El Oro province, Piñas canton. A mixed-methods approach was used, with a non-experimental design and field research. A semi-structured interview was conducted with teachers to gather information and determine whether didactic resources are used in literacy learning. The instrument used to measure the students' literacy level was a test based on literal comprehension, inferential comprehension, and critical comprehension levels. According to the results, teachers who frequently use permanent work materials, informational, experimental, illustrative, and technological resources for teaching literacy achieved acceptable and good student´s learning levels, while those who used them only frequently reached a basic level. This leads to the conclusion that greater integration of didactic resources in teaching can contribute to improving students' literacy comprehension.
