University Law Students: Keys to Preventive Work in Ecuadorian Society
Abstract
Ecuadorian society has challenges ahead, reducing the crime rate based on prevention, and the preparation of future legal professionals. The objective of this research is to present a program of insertion of the preventive theme in terms of criminal policy for students of the Law Career at Uniandes. It was a descriptive research that allowed obtaining information on the characteristics of the phenomenon of social insecurity in the Otavalo Canton. Fieldwork and documentary analysis were carried out. A questionnaire, an interview guide and an observation guide were applied. It was possible to verify that there is insecurity in the population and there is no work from prevention. A program was proposed for future jurists to work on Criminal Policy from a preventive perspective, based on the diagnosis made in the Otavalo canton. The importance of addressing crime prevention from a local framework was pointed out, to engage students and strengthen the link between academia, government, and society.
