Impact of the regulation of controlled substances in the educational environment
Abstract
ABSTRACTThe illicit trafficking of categorized substances subject to control represents a serious social and public health problem that affects various countries, especially in Latin America. Drug control in the educational environment is a topic of growing relevance, as the consumption and trafficking of substances particularly affect the young population. This research, with a mixed methodological approach, aims to analyze the impact of the control of categorized substances in the school environment. A field study was conducted with surveys of students, teachers, and parents from various educational institutions in the Cayambe canton, Ecuador. In addition, the exegetical method was used to examine the legal framework governing drug control in the Ecuadorian educational context. The results show that, while most students have not been offered to sell drugs, there is concern about the influence of friends on the consumption of illicit substances. The educational institution implements initiatives such as workshops, training, and teacher supervision to promote a safe environment. However, some students consider these prevention strategies to be insufficient. In conclusion, a comprehensive and locally adapted approach is necessary to effectively address drug consumption and trafficking in schools. The participation of the educational community, families, and authorities is essential to create environments conducive to the comprehensive development of adolescents. The implementation of effective prevention strategies and the updating of protocols are crucial steps to face this challenge.
