Challenges for Ecuadorian Society: Women and Elections. Education program proposal
Abstract
Ecuador has experienced significant changes regarding gender equality and the promotion of women's rights, yet challenges remain. In recent decades, the representation of women in political and decision-making positions has increased. However, entrenched political culture and gender stereotypes can impact the perception of women as competent political leaders, limiting their opportunities for participation and election. The objective of this study was to present a conference program that implements effective strategies to promote respect for the constitutional right to gender equality in electoral processes. The research methods employed included theoretical approaches: comparative, analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, and historical-logical; as well as empirical methods: interviews and surveys. The surveyed population consisted of 164 individuals selected through simple random sampling. Despite progress, there is a lack of societal awareness regarding the importance of gender equality in electoral processes, alongside perceptions of discrimination and gender stereotypes. A program of conferences was proposed to promote respect for gender equality in electoral processes, aiming to achieve a more equitable and inclusive system.
