The cultural dimension for the development of civic education in primary school students

Abstract

The loss of cultural identity due to neoliberal globalization necessitates addressing the cultural dimension at all levels of education worldwide. In response, Cuba is implementing the Third Improvement of Education, which introduces a new subject, Education for Civic Life. This subject is connected to the cultural dimension for the development of civic education in 7th-grade students. José Martí promoted the idea that culture is an essential pillar for the formation of citizens committed to defending their homeland. Therefore, civic participation, tolerance, social coexistence, and inclusion are categories of civic education that are strengthened through artistic education. A system of activities was developed to address the cultural dimension through Martian thought in the subject of Artistic Education, aimed at fostering civic education in 7th-grade students. The objective was to demonstrate the necessity of addressing the cultural dimension in Artistic Education through Martian thought for the development of civic education in 7th-grade students.
