The objective was to evaluate the impact of implementing clear copyright policies on the management of intellectual property rights in universities. The study corresponds to a systematic review, for which the PRISMA Declaration was implemented as a guide. The review was carried out in December 2024 in Peru. The EBSCO, Mdpi, Scopus and Web of Science databases were used. Studies published from 2015 to 2024 were identified. The descriptors “copyright”, “author rights” and “universities”, the Boolean operator “AND” were used. The initial search yielded 225 publications. Applying the inclusion criteria, 214 articles were discarded, of which 27 were systematic reviews, conferences and letters to the editor; 152 did not deal with the subject and 35 were repeated, leaving the sample at 11 publications. Ten studies in English and one in Spanish were identified; The years of publications were varied, while the methodology highlighted was qualitative with eight works, finally published in different journals. Nine studies were highlighted that evaluated copyright policies in universities, addressing challenges such as poor training in copyright, open access to knowledge, and the ethical use of technological tools; they also mention the need to harmonize legislation, promote literacy in intellectual property, and implement collaborations between institutions. In conclusion, intellectual property rights must be balanced with open access, the training of students and professionals, as well as improving institutional support.
