Evaluación y mejora de la alfabetización en información en estudiantes universitarios

Abstract

Entre las competencias transversales a formar en los profesionales de nivel superior se encuentran las referidas al manejo y uso de la información. Ello presenta aún limitaciones y se logra parcialmente. El estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar el nivel de dominio de las habilidades para identificar, organizar, registrar, evaluar críticamente y comunicar la información a través de diferentes estándares, tomando como caso de estudio los estudiantes de 3er año de la carrera de Ingeniería Civil en la Universidad de Matanzas. Se emplearon los métodos de análisis documental, la observación, el test y la técnica de PNI. Dicha evaluación se realizó en dos momentos del curso de modo tal que se pudiera apreciar la evolución de estos aspectos en dichos estudiantes. Como resultado se constataron las falencias presentes en este campo, así como comprobándose que las acciones de mejora realizadas pudieron elevar el nivel de preparación y dominio de los estudiantes para avanzar en su nivel de alfabetización en información, aspecto que resulta de gran necesidad en la formación del profesional de la actual sociedad. Ello se reflejó también en la preparación del claustro de profesores para esta labor y en la satisfacción de las entidades de producción y servicios vinculadas a la formación de dichos alumnos.

ABSTRACT

Among the transversal competencies to be trained in higher level professionals are those related to the management and use of information. This still presents limitations and is only partially achieved. The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of mastery of the skills to identify, organize, register, critically evaluate and communicate information through different standards, taking as a case study the 3rd year students of Civil Engineering at the University of Matanzas. The methods used were documentary analysis, observation, test and PNI technique. This evaluation was carried out in two moments of the course so that the evolution of these aspects in these students could be appreciated. As a result, the shortcomings present in this field were confirmed, as well as the fact that the improvement actions carried out were able to raise the level of preparation and mastery of the students to advance in their level of information literacy, an aspect that is of great necessity in the training of the professional in today's society. This was also reflected in the preparation of the teaching staff for this work and in the satisfaction of the production and service entities linked to the training of these students.
