Relationship between malocclusion and facial asymmetry: education and treatment in young adults
Keywords:
Condylar hyperplasia, facial asymmetry, condylar hyperactivity, young adultsAbstract
The literature review on condylar hyperplasia (CH) as an etiological factor of facial asymmetry in young adults reveals that CH, characterized by abnormal growth of the mandibular condyle, is associated with alterations in occlusion and temporomandibular disorders. The aim of this research was to evaluate the relationship between malocclusion and facial asymmetry, as well as the impact of academic training on its diagnosis and treatment. An exhaustive search of scientific databases was carried out and experts were consulted to validate the study variables. The results showed that HC can cause facial asymmetry and malocclusion, and that a multidisciplinary approach is essential for the effective management of these conditions. It was concluded that continuous academic training, including the use of advanced diagnostic tools such as three-dimensional tomography, is crucial for proper evaluation and treatment. In addition, continuous surveillance and the use of complementary examinations are essential to tailor treatment strategies and improve clinical outcomes in young adults.
