Public Policy and poverty alleviation: social and intergenerational mobility of students in teacher training in Ecuador

This research aims to analyze the impact of public policies on access to higher education in Ecuador, on the social and intergenerational mobility of the youths, with the objective of overcoming the poverty. To carry out this research, a mix method approach is adopted, that includes a survey of 1310 students from the National University in Education of Ecuador (UNAE) and six semi - structured interviews with key informants are done. The data collection was analyzed from the descriptive and interpretative perspective, considering aspects related to public policy, the social equity and the poverty reduction. As a result, a meaningful change will be observed in the social and intergenerational mobility of students, which contributes to the equitable development of society. This is evident in the higher accessibility of first generation of young people to third-level education and the transformation of their life perspectives.
