The Pinar del Río cultural identity faces preservation challenges in the current context, with palpable manifestations among young people attending pre-university in Cuban institutions, making it a topic requiring urgent attention and solution.
The relationship between possessing an identity and the geographical culture of a locality is profound and multifaceted, since both individual and collective identity are largely built from the cultural, historical, and geographical elements that characterize a place. Identity is nourished by geographical culture because it provides a symbolic, historical, and affective frame of reference. Being from a place not only implies being born there but also sharing an emotional and practical relationship with its geography and cultural manifestations.
This study proposes to consolidate the Pinar del Río identity through the development of the locality's geographical culture from the pre-university level. It employs the methods characteristic of a descriptive qualitative investigation, with the objective of proposing a system of interactive and participatory activities aimed at consolidating this Pinar del Río identity. This is based on the potential of Geography subject contents to deepen knowledge that contributes to the development of values and attitudes in this sense. The research progresses from theoretical systematization and the diagnosis of the current state to the design of the proposed system of activities as a contribution to solving the problem.
