The objective of this contribution was to determine how national postgraduate scholarships affect the admission and permanence of students. The methodology used was qualitative. It was non-experimental research with a transversal and exploratory design. The approach was phenomenological. The method was empirical-analytical. The results showed that, according to the responses of the students, postgraduate scholarships were not a factor that influenced the choice of the postgraduate course they are currently pursuing. However, they indicated that the economic resource was favorable mainly for maintenance, to cover expenses of their research projects, for the conformation of their thesis work, and in some cases, to continue with their studies. The findings of the investigation focused on the educational field, emphasizing providing real perspectives of the students to know and contrast different economic situations. In addition, differences and similarities were compared with those with which theoretical and practical implications were obtained, underlining their relevance and highlighting their impact on admission and permanence in postgraduate studies.
