The university professor, in his role as a researcher, must disseminate and socialize his scientific results. Currently, research is developed in a digital ecosystem where technologies characterized by being active, open and collaborative predominate, so it is important that the teacher has a digital identity, which favors a better visualization of their production, and encourages greater recognition. However, managing your digital identity as a researcher is a long and complex process, which is why it is considered a digital competence that the university professor must master to achieve recognition as a researcher. Therefore, the present contribution aims to structurally describe the digital identity management competence of the university professor for research. For compliance, the documentary analysis method was used, in which information search procedures were used through search strategies, and the selection of the most relevant documents on the topic based on exclusion and inclusion criteria; Likewise, the socio-formative methodology of Tobón, (2013). As a result, a description of the most notable aspects of a researcher's digital identity was obtained, including the procedural axes, with their performance criteria, evidence and their levels of mastery. The training of skills in university teachers, including digital ones related to research, from a socio-formative approach, assigns pedagogical sciences a leading role to promote them from the postgraduate level.
