The Third Educational Improvement has highlighted the importance of the management of educational scientific activity, due to the impact it has on the solution of educational problems. Although the Ministry of Education recognizes that educational managers must play a leading role in the management of educational scientific activity; In the General Directorate of Education of Ciego de Ávila, the insufficient theoretical and methodological preparation of the managers to manage it was confirmed, which limits the rational use of scientific potential, the articulation of research projects with pedagogical problems, and socialization, introduction and generalization of scientific results to pedagogical practice. The objective of the research was to characterize the state of preparation of managers for the management of educational scientific activity in the General Directorate of Education of Ciego de Ávila. This descriptive study was developed from a dialectical and materialist perspective, with a non-experimental design, which combined the use of theoretical methods (analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction, and modeling), empirical methods (document analysis, survey, and interview) and statistics (frequencies and percentages, Cronbach's Alpha). In the research, it was possible to characterize the state of preparation of the directors of the General Directorate of Education of Ciego de Ávila for the management of educational scientific activity and their main learning needs were identified.
