The path taken by transversality in Environmental Education has been inconsequential. There has been much research related to the benefits of transversality and the synergy it can bring to a topic as relevant as environmental education. However, the path taken in Colombian educational institutions has not been easy; rather, it has been a complex and tortuous task. This research aims to show the challenges of transversality and highlight its value for energizing the school curriculum, based on the work and opinions of teachers who use an interdisciplinary approach to Environmental Education. The methodology employed is qualitative and interpretive. Individual semi-structured interviews were applied to teachers from various disciplines in educational institutions in the urban area of Montería-Córdoba, Colombia. Their selection presented an opportunity to identify points of convergence between their areas of knowledge and environmental issues. The study was carried out in two phases: an exploratory one, and a second, a series of interviews. Governmental, institutional, and personal obstacles were revealed in the voices of teachers who have worked on Environmental Education from various disciplines. It is concluded that, despite encountering many obstacles that hinder the mainstreaming of Environmental Education in educational institutions, teachers find it a constant challenge, as there is an increasing demand for the generation of environmental values in this direction
