Digital Transformation and Development of Research Skills in Legal University Education in Ecuador

Abstract

Within contemporary higher education, the integration of digital tools has become a central axis for academic and professional training. In the legal field, the transition toward digital environments has reshaped not only teaching methodologies but also the dynamics of knowledge production and dissemination. Digital transformation requires future law professionals to go beyond mastering normative and doctrinal content, fostering research skills supported by technologies for searching, analyzing, and managing information. The incorporation of digital platforms, legal databases, and bibliographic managers has enhanced students’ ability to address complex problems with a more critical, systematic, and updated approach. Furthermore, strengthening digital competences encourages innovation in research, improving academic communication through article writing, project presentation, and dissemination in scientific repositories. However, challenges remain regarding the digital divide, resistance to methodological change, and insufficient teacher training, which limit the real impact of digitalization on the research process. This analysis emphasizes the importance of institutional policies that promote advanced digital literacy and ensure accessible technological resources. In doing so, it guarantees that future jurists not only meet the demands of the global context but also contribute to strengthening Ecuadorian legal education as innovative, critical, and research-oriented. Ultimately, this process supports scientific research as a cornerstone for academic and social development.
