The Influence of the Family on Students' Academic Achievement: An Ethnographic Study

The relationship between family and school is a key factor in the educational process of students, as the family environment plays a fundamental role in their learning and development. Family involvement in education has a significant influence on the academic environment, reinforcing the support children need to progress in their education. The aim of this research was to identify the level of family influence on students' academic performance during the teaching and learning process. A qualitative approach with an ethnographic design was used, considering the population Physical Education teachers, a classroom assistant and two social workers belonging to both private and municipal educational establishments in the region of Coquimbo. The data collection technique was through a semi-structured interview and the results were analysed by means of semantic networks with the use of Atlas. Ti. The findings highlight the importance of the family in education, showing that their participation can improve the academic performance of students. Consequently, it is concluded that it is essential to promote effective communication between the educational institution and the family in order to strengthen this link and favour the educational process.
