Psychometric Validation of a Questionnaire for Assessing Academic Emotions During School Examinations

Abstract

This study aimed to validate an assessment instrument designed to identify the emotions experienced by secondary school students during exams, highlighting their influence on emotional development and academic performance. A Likert-scale questionnaire was developed based on a tridimensional taxonomy of emotions, and psychometric procedures were applied, including expert judgment, Aiken’s V, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability coefficients. Results showed strong conceptual consistency and content validity, leading to the refinement or removal of items. The instrument proved effective in measuring emotions such as anxiety, hope, pride, and hopelessness before, during, and after exams. It was concluded that this tool supports student evaluation, fosters emotionally responsive teaching practices, and enhances educational research in Latin American contexts.
