Abstract

Currently, stress and anxiety are factors that leave their mark on the dynamics of the activities of higher education students; therefore, it is essential to develop skills that allow them to understand their own emotional world and that of those around them in order to develop effectively in such scenarios. This research focused on determining the incidence of emotional intelligence in the management of academic stress in students of a public institute of higher education in Trujillo. A non-experimental design (correlational-causal) was adopted, with a sample of 155 students, selected through simple random probability sampling and then stratified proportional sampling. The BAR-ON test was applied for the emotional intelligence variable and the SISCO-SV 21 inventory for academic stress. From the data obtained it was shown that emotional intelligence has a significant influence on the management of academic stress; likewise, the higher or lower the level of emotional intelligence, the higher or lower the academic stress in the students of a public technological institute of Trujillo. It is concluded that it is crucial to carry out concrete interventions so that these students can develop a set of dispositions to shape their ability to effectively face the challenges and demands of the academic environment.
