A general strategy to strengthen awareness-raising tasks and curricular training of the university community at the University of Cienfuegos is presented, for the best use of the urban solid waste generated therein as well as in its immediate surroundings, particularly in the industrial, service, and teaching facilities where students are introduced to carry out practical curricular activities, pre-professional activities and develop research activities from the curricular and other extracurriculars. The proposal is a bibliographical study result, conducted to learn about existing national and international experiences and to observe the urban solid waste management current state in the country and in the Cienfuegos territory which demonstrates that, beyond the lack of material and financial resources, a greater issue understanding is needed, ensuring that training professionals complete their studies with a problem awareness and equipped with some tools, in accordance with the degree they are studying. Since its implementation involves all stakeholders, in the various study programs and other institution areas, it represents a strength that could change the current waste management state in the near future
