Abstract

 

The incorporation of digital tools and educational platforms like Busuu in English language teaching and learning is presented as an innovative alternative and is gaining ground in the comprehensive education of students and their full integration into society, where English proficiency is a highly valued skill. However, this innovative process is still insufficient in the Ecuadorian educational context; this justifies investigating the impact of the Busuu platform as an innovative strategy in language teaching in Basic Education, with the objective of proposing a didactic strategy to integrate Busuu into the teaching and learning process in the English area of ​​ninth grade at the “Jorge Romero Pinto” Basic Education School. Through a mixed-methods approach, descriptive scope, and pre-test/post-test experimental design, a diagnosis was obtained revealing low participation in the English teaching-learning process, poor academic performance among ninth-grade students at the studied educational institution, and the lack of a well-founded and expert-validated teaching strategy that hinders the full utilization of innovation and applied technologies. This leads to the proposal of a pedagogically sound strategy structured around activities and objectives. It is concluded that the proposed strategy is based on a comprehensive and active pedagogical approach, and its experimental implementation demonstrates its effectiveness in enhancing ninth-grade students' participation in the teaching-learning process and improving their academic performance in English. Furthermore, it has a positive impact on the feedback dynamic between students and teachers regarding the evolution of English teaching and learning at the "Jorge Romero Pinto" Basic Education School. The methodological design of the research and the proposed teaching strategy can be applied in the same year and level in other educational institutions with similar characteristics.
