Academic and contextual determinants in the completion of master's degrees: Longitudinal evidence 2023-2025

Timely completion of graduate programs remains a recurrent challenge for higher education institutions. Multiple academic, personal, and contextual factors affect students’ performance and shape graduation rates. In master’s programs, balancing academic demands with work and family responsibilities emerges as a critical issue influencing persistence and program completion. Additionally, the quality of supervision, access to bibliographic resources, institutional support, and clarity in administrative processes directly impact terminal efficiency. The longitudinal analysis conducted at UNIANDES during 2023–2025 highlights significant trends and provides insights for improvement strategies. These findings emphasize the need for educational policies that integrate both academic and psychosocial support in order to increase graduation rates and strengthen the overall quality of postgraduate education.
