The role of the university teacher is essential in the direction and orientation of the teaching-learning process, facilitating the students' protagonism to achieve the proposed objectives. However, in the context of virtual teaching, limitations have been identified that impact on the effectiveness of this process. Therefore, the present study has focused on the fundamental objective of developing actions that strengthen the functions of the teacher in the virtual teaching-learning process, with the purpose of improving the training of students in this environment. To address this objective, a research has been carried out combining theoretical and empirical methods, including scientific, participatory and systematic observation of the teaching-learning process of the subject "Research Seminar" in the context of the Master's Degree in Educational Research, taught at the Cuba-Mexico Institute for Research and Teacher Training during the academic period from January to March 2023. The results of this research have evidenced deficiencies that affect the efficiency of the virtual teaching-learning process, which in turn negatively influences the achievement of educational objectives. In response to these limitations, a solution has been proposed that includes actions aimed at strengthening the functions of the teacher in the virtual process, promoting a proactive attitude towards the challenges that may arise.
