Abstract

Postgraduate orthodontic education should incorporate a robust focus on systemic pathologies, especially autoimmune diseases such as vasculitis. This study aims to evaluate the impact of vasculitis on orthodontic treatment for patients with skeletal class II and maxillary compression. A clinical approach was used, evaluating a 14-year-old patient with small vessel vasculitis (SVV) by clinical examination and radiographs. The results indicate that the application of light orthodontic forces minimizes periodontal inflammation and that an interdisciplinary approach is essential for the management of these patients. The findings underscore the need for further research on VVP and highlight the importance of specialized training that includes knowledge of autoimmune pathologies, as well as collaboration between orthodontists and other specialists to ensure comprehensive and effective treatments. This will enable future orthodontists to adequately address the clinical complexities associated with these conditions.
