Application of the Singapore method in the second level of basic education in Ecuador

The general objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Singapore method on academic performance in mathematics in second level students of basic education in Ecuador. The problem lies in the low mathematical performance observed in the country's basic education, which demands the implementation of innovative methodologies that facilitate learning. A comparative experimental methodology was adopted, in which two groups of students were evaluated: one that used the Singapore method and another that used the traditional method. The population consisted of 64 students divided equally into two second level classrooms. The results, analyzed using Student's t tests and Cohen's d calculation, indicated significant improvements in the experimental group, especially in problem-solving and critical thinking skills. These findings suggest that the Singapore method is an effective pedagogical intervention to improve mathematical learning.
