Abstract

Scientific research constitutes a fundamental pillar for intellectual, commercial, and social development, serving as the engine of progress in a knowledge-based society. Its integration into the university environment is essential, as it fosters critical thinking and unites faculty and students in the generation of new knowledge. A systematic review following the PRISMA 2020 methodology was conducted to analyze the impact of scientific research on educational quality, knowledge production, and sustainable development in universities across the region. Ten relevant studies published between 2020 and 2025 in Latin American academic databases were selected. The results demonstrate that increased investment and promotion of research in educational institutions are positively associated with the enhancement of academic competencies, the generation of relevant knowledge, and the strengthening of the formative role of universities. It is concluded that to advance educational quality, it is advisable to promote a strong research culture, supported by greater institutional backing, faculty training, and international collaboration.
