The development of research competencies in higher education has become an essential component for ensuring academic quality and the social relevance of knowledge. Within the legal field, these skills enable students not only to critically analyze legal sources but also to use research as a tool for addressing social and juridical issues. At the Universidad Regional Autónoma de los Andes (UNIANDES), strengthening research training in Law students represents an institutional challenge that demands the redesign of pedagogical and methodological strategies aimed at this purpose. The implementation of active methodologies, the promotion of academic writing, the construction of solid theoretical frameworks, and the proper application of citation standards are key elements that enhance autonomous learning and scientific rigor. However, challenges remain, such as limited student motivation, the need for stronger faculty guidance, and the integration of research with professional practice. Overcoming these barriers requires envisioning a more comprehensive approach to research training, capable of connecting theory, practice, and social commitment. This effort is essential to prepare future jurists as competent, critical professionals ready to meet the demands of a dynamic and constantly evolving legal environment.
